Derek Rebuck Digital Services

Derek Rebuck Digital Services is a small Washington D.C. based design company, launched in 2016 by design expert Derek Rebuck. Derek has been freelance designer since 2012 and specializes in web design, graphic design, and marketing.

"It started in 2012, while I was still pursuing my bachelor's degree. I realized it was the end of the semester and I'd be at home for the summer. Because I grew up in a small town, seasonal job opportunities were hard to come by, and tough to get unless you knew the right people. I did not. Rather than waste my summer relaxing, I sought to stay active. Yes, I mowed grass, did yard work, even painted walls and laid laminate flooring, but I also freelanced.

Since I was still in school and did not yet possess a degree in design, I didn't feel appropriate charging for my services and instead, viewed it as more of a learning opportunity to gain design experience working with clients in the real world. I reached out to local businesses in my community and had an overwhelming response.

So much so, that there was no way I'd be able to complete even 25% of the projects requested over the summer. Since my college was 6 hours away, I could only really do these additional assignments over my summer months.

During these summers, I designed wooden signs and business cards for a former retired teacher looking to start tutoring, a flyer for a local community event, and restaurant menus. In years that followed, my tasks grew. I met with a Colgate University student run club to discuss viral marketing campaigns, worked with the Colgate University counseling office to design some marketing materials, helped design a welcome sign for my town, and helped design content for a mayoral

campaign which resulted in him winning."

After obtaining his degree, Derek waited until he established his roots until starting DRDS.
